Danfoss KVL Crankcase Pressure Regulator

Danfoss KVL Crankcase Pressure Regulator

The Danfoss KVL Crankcase Pressure Regulator is a mechanical pressure regulator designed for refrigeration and air-conditioning systems where compressor protection against excessive suction pressure is required. Installed in the suction line ahead of the compressor, the KVL helps limit the pressure entering the compressor during high-load conditions, system start-up, and after defrost or extended shutdown periods.

The Danfoss KVL series provides accurate and adjustable pressure regulation, making it suitable for a wide range of commercial refrigeration and cold room applications. Its compact design, pulsation-damping construction and stainless-steel bellows provide reliable pressure control for refrigeration systems.

Available Danfoss KVL Sizes

We supply Danfoss KVL Crankcase Pressure Regulators in a range of connection sizes, including:

  • KVL 12 – 1/2"

  • KVL 15 – 5/8"

  • KVL 22 – 7/8"

  • KVL 28 – 1-1/8"

  • KVL 35 – 1-3/8"

Depending on the model, KVL regulators are available with flare or ODF solder connections. Danfoss' technical documentation lists the KVL range from KVL 12 through KVL 35.

Danfoss KVL Applications

The KVL Crankcase Pressure Regulator is suitable for applications such as:

  • Cold room refrigeration systems

  • Commercial refrigeration

  • Freezer systems

  • Walk-in cold rooms

  • Refrigeration condensing units

  • Supermarket refrigeration systems

  • Compressor suction-line protection

  • Systems subject to high evaporator pressure after defrost

  • Refrigeration systems requiring controlled compressor inlet pressure

Key Features

  • Adjustable crankcase pressure regulation

  • Installed in the compressor suction line

  • Helps protect compressor motor against overload

  • Suitable for refrigeration and air-conditioning applications

  • Compact angle design for flexible installation

  • Pulsation-damping design

  • Stainless-steel bellows

  • Hermetically brazed construction

  • Wide operating and capacity range

  • Available in multiple connection sizes

Danfoss specifies a regulation range of approximately 0.2 to 6.0 bar / 3 to 87 psig for the KVL range, with a maximum working pressure of 18 bar / 260 psig on the referenced models. Always verify the exact model and application requirements before installation.

Why Use a Danfoss KVL Regulator?

When a refrigeration system experiences high suction pressure, the compressor can be exposed to excessive load during operation or restart. A KVL crankcase pressure regulator helps control the suction pressure reaching the compressor, providing an additional level of compressor protection and supporting reliable system operation.

The KVL is therefore commonly considered for cold room, freezer and commercial refrigeration applications where compressor suction pressure needs to be controlled.
