Johnson Controls F261KAH-V01C & FS80-C Liquid Flow Switch

Paddle-type liquid flow switches for HVAC, chilled water, refrigeration and water circulation systems, designed to detect changes in fluid flow and provide an electrical switching signal for compatible equipment and control systems.

F261KAH-V01C FS80-C SPDT Paddle Type Chilled Water HVACR

💧 Johnson Controls Liquid Flow Switch

The Johnson Controls / PENN Flow Switch range provides mechanical liquid-flow detection for HVAC, refrigeration and hydronic applications.

Installed directly into the piping system, the paddle reacts to the force generated by moving liquid. When the flow reaches the switching point, the internal SPDT contact changes state and can provide a flow-status signal to compatible control equipment.

RNA Engineering & Trading Sdn Bhd supplies two models: F261KAH-V01C and FS80-C. Both are suitable for liquid-flow monitoring, but their pressure, temperature and enclosure specifications differ.

Common HVACR Function:

Pump Starts → 💧 Water Circulates → Paddle Moves → ⚡ SPDT Contact Changes → Control System Confirms Flow

⭐ Key Features

💧 Reliable Flow Detection Mechanical paddle responds directly to fluid movement within the piping system.
⚡ SPDT Switching Provides changeover contact operation for integration with compatible control and equipment circuits.
📏 Multiple Paddle Sizes Different paddle lengths allow the switch to be adapted to a range of pipe sizes.
🎛️ Adjustable Flow Setting Flow actuation setting can be adjusted within the manufacturer's specified operating range.
❄️ HVACR Applications Suitable for compatible chilled-water, refrigeration and hydronic flow-monitoring applications.
🛡️ Equipment Interlocking The flow-status contact can be incorporated into compatible equipment control and protection logic.

🏭 Typical Applications

❄️ Chilled Water Systems Detect water circulation through HVAC chilled-water piping and cooling equipment.
🧊 Chillers Can be incorporated into compatible chiller interlock logic to confirm water flow.
🔄 Pump Systems Monitor whether the required fluid circulation is present after a pump starts.
🌬️ HVAC Systems Flow monitoring for compatible AHU, FCU and hydronic air-conditioning installations.
🏢 Building Services Suitable for compatible commercial building water-circulation systems.
🏭 Industrial Cooling Flow-status monitoring for compatible non-hazardous industrial liquid circuits.

🧊 Why Use a Flow Switch on a Chiller?

A liquid flow switch can provide the chiller control system with confirmation that water is circulating through the system before or during compressor operation.

Typical Chiller Interlock:

Pump ON → Chilled Water Flow → Flow Switch Detects Flow → Control Circuit Receives Flow Confirmation → Chiller Operation Permitted

If the water flow stops, the flow-switch contact can be used within properly designed control logic to help shut down or interlock equipment and reduce the risk of abnormal operation.

🔧 Selection & Installation Guide

1️⃣ Confirm Pipe Size Select and install the correct paddle arrangement according to the pipe diameter.
2️⃣ Check Flow Rate Confirm that the expected system flow falls within the applicable switch adjustment range.
3️⃣ Check Pressure Confirm system pressure does not exceed the maximum rating of the selected model.
4️⃣ Check Temperature Verify both fluid and ambient temperatures against the model's permitted operating range.
5️⃣ Check Electrical Load Confirm the SPDT contact rating is suitable for the connected equipment or control circuit.
6️⃣ Check Flow Direction Install the switch with its paddle and flow-direction indicator correctly oriented.
⚠️ Important Installation Note: Flow switches should be used as operating controls. Where a flow-switch failure could result in equipment damage or unsafe operation, appropriate independent safety, limit, alarm or supervisory controls should also be incorporated into the system.
⚠️ F261KAH-V01C Potable Water Warning: Johnson Controls states that the F261 product contains a copper alloy containing lead and therefore should not be used for drinking-water applications.

⚡ Important Wiring Note

Although both products use an SPDT switch, do not assume that the terminal switching sequence is identical between F261KAH-V01C and FS80-C.

Always follow the wiring diagram supplied with the exact model. The manufacturer's documentation specifies different colour-terminal switching sequences for these two product families. Verify the model before wiring or replacing an existing flow switch.
