What is Carel boss?

boss is CAREL's local supervisory system for HVAC/R plants. It connects to your refrigeration controllers, air-conditioning units, chillers and third-party devices over RS485 or Ethernet, records data, manages alarms and sends notifications by email, SMS or Telegram.

Every model has responsive web pages, so commissioning and daily checks can be done from any browser. Built-in Wi-Fi lets technicians connect directly to the supervisor on site without the building's IT network, and data is protected with HTTPS encryption.

With energy plug-ins such as Floating Suction, Dew Point Broadcast and Smart Start, boss does more than watch the plant. It actively reduces energy use and helps you meet food-safety (HACCP) temperature-logging requirements.

Which Carel boss model should I choose?

Count the controllers on site. Up to 15 devices: boss-micro standard (BMBST). Up to 30: boss-micro enhanced (BMBSE). Up to 50: boss-mini. Up to 300 devices or 3,500 logged variables: boss (BMHST**XE0).

Do I need internet or a PC to use it?

No. Wi-Fi models create their own network. Connect with a phone or laptop and open the browser to commission and operate the supervisor.

Can boss connect to non-CAREL equipment?

Yes. Modbus RTU and TCP are standard, BACnet and SNMP are available as plug-ins, and new device profiles are created with Device Creator.

How are alarms sent?

By email, SMS and Telegram. boss-micro 4G models have a built-in modem; boss and boss-mini can use the BMHSTMDA00 modem for SMS.

Can I install boss-micro in a metal panel?

Yes, but remote the antennas outside the panel with the 3 m extension cables BMBSTEWA00 (Wi-Fi) and BMBSTEGA00 (4G), keeping antennas at least 30 cm apart.
