Which Oil Separator Series Should I Choose?

🔩 Choose A-F When a conventional flanged and serviceable oil separator is preferred.
⚙ Choose A-W For standard refrigeration applications requiring a welded hermetic oil separator.
🛡 Choose A-WZ For applications requiring a higher-pressure welded construction.
🌀 Choose A-FC For demanding systems where high-efficiency centrifugal oil separation is required.

Why Is an Oil Separator Important?

🛢 Maintain Compressor Oil Level Helps return oil to the compressor or oil reservoir instead of allowing excessive oil to circulate through the refrigeration system.
❄ Improve Evaporator Performance Reducing excessive oil circulation can help prevent oil coating from reducing evaporator heat-transfer efficiency.
⚙ Protect Compressor Lubrication Reliable oil return helps maintain sufficient compressor lubrication during operation.
📏 Long Refrigerant Piping Oil separators are particularly valuable where long refrigerant piping makes natural oil return more difficult.
🏭 Multi-Compressor Rack Systems Separated oil can be returned to a central oil reservoir for controlled distribution to multiple compressors.
🧊 Low-Temperature Systems Oil management becomes especially important in low-temperature refrigeration applications where oil return can be more difficult.

How Does an Oil Separator Work?

Hot refrigerant discharge gas leaving the compressor contains a certain amount of entrained compressor oil.

Inside the oil separator, the gas velocity and flow direction are changed so that oil droplets can be separated from the refrigerant gas. The separated oil collects in the lower portion of the separator.

An internal oil-return mechanism then allows the collected oil to return to the compressor or external oil-management system.

A-FC Difference: The centrifugal series creates a rotating gas flow to enhance oil separation efficiency, making it particularly suitable for demanding refrigeration systems.

How to Select the Correct Oil Separator

1. Compressor Capacity Determine compressor displacement and refrigeration capacity.
2. Refrigerant Confirm refrigerant type and operating conditions.
3. Discharge Line Size Match the required inlet and outlet connection size.
4. Working Pressure Select standard or high-pressure construction according to the refrigeration system.
5. Oil Separation Requirement For demanding oil-return conditions, consider the high-efficiency centrifugal A-FC family.
6. Existing Model & PCN For replacement jobs, always confirm the complete Copeland model and PCN.
Selection Reminder: Connection size alone is not sufficient for selecting an oil separator. Refrigerant, compressor capacity, discharge-gas flow, pressure, oil type and system configuration should also be considered.
