CAREL EVD Electronic Expansion Valve Driver – EVD Evolution & EVD Ice
Brand: Carel
CAREL Electronic Expansion Valve Driver
Intelligent electronic expansion valve control for accurate refrigerant superheat regulation in commercial refrigeration, cold rooms, chillers, air-conditioning and selected CO₂ systems.
Advanced Electronic Expansion Valve Control
The CAREL EVD electronic expansion valve driver range is designed to control the operation of compatible stepper-motor electronic expansion valves and regulate refrigerant superheat in refrigeration and air-conditioning systems.
By adjusting electronic expansion valve opening according to operating conditions, CAREL EVD drivers help maintain controlled refrigerant feeding and support efficient evaporator operation.
Two distinct solutions are available: EVD evolution, an advanced DIN-rail electronic expansion valve driver, and EVD ice, a compact superheat controller developed for installation close to the evaporator.
Choose the Right CAREL EVD Driver
EVD evolution
Advanced controller for bipolar stepper-motor electronic expansion valves, offering flexible superheat control and specialised refrigeration functions.
tLAN, pLAN and RS485/Modbus versions; optional graphic display.
EVD ice
Compact electronic superheat controller designed specifically for compatible CAREL unipolar electronic expansion valves.
Designed for installation near the evaporator, including suitable cold room environments.
Key Features & Benefits
Precision Superheat Regulation
Continuously regulates compatible electronic expansion valves to maintain the required superheat setpoint.
Protective Control Functions
Low superheat, high evaporation pressure and low evaporation pressure management for suitable configurations.
Flexible Valve Selection
EVD evolution Universal variants support selected CAREL and third-party stepper expansion valves.
Simple Commissioning
Configuration through supported display or software tools; EVD ice offers convenient built-in setting functions.
System Communication
Selected models provide tLAN, pLAN or RS485/Modbus connections for controller and supervisory integration.
Advanced Refrigeration Support
EVD evolution offers specialised control possibilities for selected CO₂ circuits and other applications.
How Electronic Superheat Control Works
The EVD driver uses the configured refrigerant characteristics and connected temperature / pressure measurements to determine the valve opening required by the refrigeration system.
EVD evolution Model Selection
Choose between Universal and CAREL-specific versions according to valve compatibility and communication requirements.

Typical Applications
Important Before Ordering
Confirm whether the expansion valve uses a bipolar or unipolar stepper motor, and check the driver part number, refrigerant, communication interface, power supply, pressure transducer and required accessories. A driver alone is not a complete electronic expansion valve kit.
