What is a Danfoss TXV Power Element?

The Danfoss thermostatic element, commonly called a TXV power element, is the temperature-responsive component of a thermostatic expansion valve.

The sensing bulb detects the suction-line temperature and allows the TXV to regulate refrigerant flow according to evaporator load and superheat conditions.

TEA and TEVA belong to a different Danfoss thermostatic expansion valve application family and should be kept separate from the TE5–TE55 selection tables.

Understanding MOP

MOP = Maximum Operating Pressure. Selected Danfoss thermostatic elements include an MOP function that limits the maximum evaporating pressure seen during operation.

This can help protect the compressor motor against excessive load under applicable operating conditions, particularly during pull-down or system start-up.

Important: A MOP element should not be selected simply because it offers additional protection. The MOP point, refrigerant, temperature range, valve size and system operating conditions must match the refrigeration application.

How to Select the Correct Power Element

1. Valve Family Confirm TE5, TE12, TE20 or TE55.
2. Refrigerant Match the thermostatic charge to the specified refrigerant.
3. Temperature Range Select the correct N, NM, NL or B operating range where applicable.
4. MOP Requirement Determine whether a standard or MOP element is required.
5. Capillary Length Check whether the installation requires the standard or longer capillary version.
6. Danfoss Code Always verify the complete Danfoss part number before replacement.
